6th Annual Beach Cleaning Event
Every year, a significant amount of waste is thrown into the oceans, resulting in the pollution of our beaches. At the root of this problem are unsustainable production and consumption patterns, as well as inadequate waste management strategies. MAR Shopping Algarve plays a crucial role in promoting environmental awareness, contributing to the preservation of marine ecosystems and a healthier environment in local communities.
Aware of the importance of preserving the Algarve's natural heritage, MAR Shopping Algarve is holding the 6th edition of the 'Beach Cleanup' initiative, which will take place on Quarteira Beach on April 10, between 09:30 and 12:30.
The project, which has now been running for five editions with the support of various organizations, including government authorities and private companies such as IKEA and the European Recycling Platform, has already had a positive impact on the community, with the active participation of 322 volunteers, as well as the support and involvement of 20 partners. In all, 21,680 kg of waste have already been collected, a collective effort that has resulted in an average recycling rate of 56%. This year's partners are Loulé City Council, the Algarve Tourism Board, IKEA, Designer Outlet Algarve, the Portuguese Environment Agency, Quarteira Parish Council, Águas do Algarve, ALGAR, Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, Associação Oncológica do Algarve and ARA - Animal Rescue Algarve.
Participation in the 6th edition of the Beach Clean-Up is free and can be joined directly at the venue. Participants will receive a participation kit which includes a reusable bag, gloves, a T-shirt, a bag for collecting garbage, among other items.
Meeting points: Praça do Mar and Centro Azul.
